Safety Halloween Dilworth
I'm glad to be a small part of starting a Court Watch program for the Dilworth Area. I think it will help focus efforts to concentrate on repeat offenders that are harming our community. The police, DAs, and the court system certainly need all the help they can get.

Dilworth residents have the enviable status of a low crime rate in one of Charlotte’s most urban neighborhoods.  Neighborhood policing coupled with citizen involvement make Dilworth one of the safest places to live, work, or play in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

Constant vigilance and sharing information between police and residents reduce opportunities for criminals. Dilworth participates in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Neighborhood Watch program in which neighbors look out for neighbors.  Police attend each Dilworth Community Development Association (DCDA)  meeting for the purpose of reporting crime trends and to speak privately to anyone about current crime concerns.

Dilworth has an active Dilworth Court Watch, a group of resident-volunteers who attend court when a repeat offender in the neighborhood appears for arraignment or sentencing.  The District Attorney’s office is notified of the impact the perpetrator’s criminal activity has on the neighborhood and advocates for strict sentencing.

Citizens have online access to a number of websites relating to crime in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.  One of the most useful is www.cmpd.org. which contains everything from current 911 calls, a directory of all police services and crime mapping for criminal activity and accident hotspots.

Join in the work of the Neighborhood Safety Committee.  Your eyes and ears can mean an even safer Dilworth.  To get involved, come to any Dilworth Community Development Association meeting at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday night of every month at the Tom Sykes Recreation Center.

An increasing number of websites offer online accessibility to citizens. Here are some of the most useful:
