The DCDA
Dilworth is our Neighborhood
Dilworth is Charlotte’s oldest suburb with construction of the neighborhood starting in 1890 and its grand opening in 1891. The idea for a suburb connected to a city of Charlotte’s size was an ambitious one for its day, but just one of the many ambitious ideas that made Charlotte into the city it is today. Today, the residents of Dilworth benefit from those ambitious plans implemented so many years ago.
We have beautiful tree lined streets, interesting architecture, shops and restaurants in easy walking distance, none of which should be taken for granted, but it is the people who make Dilworth. Countless hours and volunteers go into everything from the Home Tour, to the Jubilee, to land design issues (so we keep our interesting architecture and our trees are not towered over by skyscrapers), to stop signs, sidewalks, street trees, and most everything that makes Dilworth a treasure for its residents. The residents of Dilworth make it the best neighborhood in Charlotte (yes, I am biased) because of their passion and involvement. The DCDA is the by product of concerned neighbors coming together to deal with blight along South Boulevard. By working with the City, they helped create a plan which resulted in the Strawn Apartments being built within our community. Most of these volunteers are unrecognized for their endeavors, but all residents of Dilworth benefit from their efforts.
There are countless ways for you to be involved in Dilworth, which can be as simple as picking up your neighbor’s mail while they are out of town, to volunteering for the Home Tour, to serving on the Board of the DCDA. There are many opportunities for you to get further involved in Dilworth, so check out this website, and the Dilworth Quarterly. Or if there is something you are interested in that is not being addressed come to your monthly DCDA meeting, and let us hear about it. Dilworth is your neighborhood, and expects your involvement!
